A better solution for your better knives might be Renaissance Wax. It was discussed on Oct 17 in a Field and Stream blog. Advantages are that it is nearly permanent, contains no acids, requires no heating, and was originally developed by the British Museum for conservation of iron works of all

Ron that's a pretty nice collection! Do any of the knives pair particularly well with a certain bike or does it just depend on the bag you grab? I would think linseed oil would be a nice touch on the opinel handle with or without the heat treatment but I've got no first hand experience. Tony

Not long ago a thread had a handy tip about soaking an Opinel pocket knife in mineral oil, then baking it at a low temp. Sounds like seasoning a cast iron pan. Ready to do this, and wondering if I should treat my horn handled carbon blade pocket knives to the same treatment? What about the bras
