I've read in a few places recently that chain lube doesn't significantly
reduce drivetrain friction (at least in lab testing). it seems that as long
as you're doing enough to prevent corrosion (and limit the annoyance of
noise), all is well, regardless of what you use. Interested to hear folks'
How long does Ice Wax keep the chain silent? I gauge the efficacy of a lube
by how silent it keeps the chain -- this is a rule of thumb, not a
scientific conclusion, of course -- and find that with "dry" lubes,
including paraffin, the chain starts making noise -- light squeaks --
within 100 miles.
