likely especially challenging, coencidentally the same two conditions that are
challeging for clothing: wet and near freezing and below zero F. I doubt boiled
wool and chain tools play well together. Grin.

Och, Erl! It is a head scratcher, aye? The plan is to use WolfTooth’s RapidLink
chaintool to add/remove the needed chain trailside. So, with the default Silver
triple of 24/34/44t, I’d have the base length of chain for the 24t ring, add
10t of chain for the 34t ring, add 10t more for the 44t cha

A lot opens up when changing gears involves changing chain length. I just
forgot to reassess all the other pieces to see the simplest solution, until
bumbling into it playing and puzzling here with all you lot! Grin. Thanks!

calculator I realized a triple, which is what I’m buying with a Silver even if
I use it as a single with chain guard, achieves exactly the gearing I want,
with greater ease of gear change, and with flexability to inexpe

I assume you are mostly set on “new” cranks for your potential Gus Boots but
you may be able to achieve similar gearing with an older mtb triple with 104/64
4-bolt circles... assuming chainring changes wouldn’t be necessary among your
other frames/cranks (assuming different bolt patterns?) I ha

O. The Silver 24/24/44 x 18 cog yields 39”, 56”, 72” , with the easy
ability to tweek to 50” if I want. That is very attractive. No cog swap either,
just shift the chain and lengthen/shorten. Silver again, for the win!

I’ve looked hard at their square taper cranks, Joe, and should have mentioned
them and they are the only others I’ve seen that are in the running so far.
Their smallest chainring is 30t, their largest cog 20t, so that gives me a low
of 44” and a medium of 55”. My current medium gear on my Hunqab
IRD Mjolnir.

Next Boots build puzzle: cranks. 1x cranks, square taper (since it comes with
those), silver, ideally cold forged, and 26 or 28t chainring.
Current plan: Silver cranks, with chainguard outer, blank mid, wee ring inner.
Other options? Such a wee ring is a big ask. Grin.
