Hi Patrick, I found the Shimano Saint platform pedals to be exceptionally comfortable on my MTB - if you want to barefoot it would be easy to remove the grip pins. The pedals are metal, have a huge platform and appear to be "bomb-proof". Review here

I backed the Kickstarter for Magnic's and have a set - I have not installed them yet, but have held the "light-pod" next to a spinning rim and it lights up "like magic" ! I'm happy to install them on one of my bikes and provide photos/video/answers - and/or make it available for interested folk
