[RBW] Re: The do-it-all Rivendell of choice

Everyone choosing the Hunqapillar makes me mighty envious, especially since those are long gone. To all the Hunq owners: what bike in Riv's current catalog fills that role now? Is it the Appaloosa, their heavier-duty road touring frame? Or is the Hunqapillar the genetic precursor to the current

With as many Thumbies as there are out there, I sure wish these were available. I know there are other options that are made specifically for the Silver/Dia-Compe friction models we all know and love but it'd be nice to use something I already have. I can't help but wonder if they ceased produc

I know Mike Varley at Black Mountain Cycles is a big fan of the Minimoto and specs them for a lot of Monstercross builds, which has a max tire size of 700x50. Paul discusses fender clearance in this video , but as Laing has said, there are other vari

I've not mounted the Homage, but I've mounted a wide array of tires to Cliffhangers, both in 26 and 650b. Wire bead tires are fairly easy to mount, especially with the depth of the well and the amount of internal space. A bit harder time than I've had with other rims, but not so bad. Tight-fitt

I'm right there with you, Garth. The best way for me to estimate fit is to compare stack/reach and other frame dimensions to any of my current bikes that fit me well. I also wish Rivendell would be more forthcoming with that information. I get that they're trying to make things easier/simpler by

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm also in the market for some Silver 1 or Dia Compe downtube shifters if anyone else has a set. -J.C. On Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 12:19:48 PM UTC-5 Collin A wrote: > PM sent about some shifters... > > Collin in Sactown > > On Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 8:5

Hi Karl, I'm located in North Louisiana. I spent a lot of time up in Nashville/Franklin pre-pandemic, but I haven't been traveling for work as much since then. I know shipping can be a deal-breaker when it comes to wheels but please let me know if you've got anything! -J.C. On Tuesday, Septem

[RBW] Re: Are Paul brakes worth the money?

As someone who likes to fiddle, I find the adjustability (read: fiddliness) enjoyable. I like supporting small businesses, especially in this industry and despite the bling factor, I do think Paul Components has some great ideas. Designing all their brakes to run the same V-brake pads is nice, a

2022-09-25 Thread J.C. Bryant
I've found myself in need of a spare set of rim brake 650b wheels for my wife's bike. She's happy running 38-42 tires, so I don't need anything crazy wide. Anything within the realm of A23s or Dyads would be fine. I don't have the budget to pick up a custom hand-built set right now and piecing

I actually ended up with Eric's XTR Rapid Rise mentioned in this post. I like fixing and tinkering so I figured I'd give it a shot. I've successfully fixed (i.e. manhandled) a few derailleurs that suffered from bent cages and I figured that might be the case with this one. There is definitely a
