Hi Ben,
So I also had an existential biking experience this past summer, and it
resulted in me making big changes, including getting a Riv. I was riding on
a fairly crowded bike path (no cars) on my carbon road bike, keeping up
with some other riders that were going fast, drafting a bit and hav
I used one for about six months, and had a lot of bar slippage. The
slippage is very well managed under normal use, so it’s not like the bars
slipped in a major way that I felt was dangerous. I ride pretty technical
stuff on my Gus so I’m now running a bmx stem which is the only thing I’ve

I always personally took it as a suggestion one probably shouldn't use it
for aggressive single track and mountain biking with wide handlebars more
so than adventure touring and light trail riding. I've never had slip
issues.

I had the same aggravating problem and it turned out to be caused by burrs
on the teeth of one of the chainrings. Feel each tooth for burrs and use a
file to grind them off. I opt for steel chainrings when I can now because
of this.

I agree with everything Bill L. said, above. Normally I'd add that this
isn't a model-specific issue but, in this case, the fact that it's a Clem
makes it a little more interesting. But in the opposite way... in that I
would have thought these problems more rare.

Ben, I began to ask myself your question - "Why am I riding?" - at some
point in my mid 50s (I'm now in my 70s). The how and why I ride has evolved
with the passing of time. Today I ride purely for the pleasure of being in
motion in the great outdoors. I stop to gaze at streams and vistas and

Interesting thread. I own a 57 Sam set up with drop bars / 42mm gravel kings. I had the opportunity to build a lugged 54 roadini, I’m luckily on the cusp of both sizes. What persuaded me to follow through despite the quite obvious similarities, was the ability to size down. Looking forward to a mor

I have more or less the same questions as Mike in BK. I ride a 2017 58cm

identical numbers. The number I'm most interested in would be the front
center. But they don't list those stats anymore in the geo charts? From

I know some users have experienced slip at the bars with the single bolt
stem.
You are probably fine if you aren't doing any jumps/drops and the stem has
good insertion. If it was all the way up I bet it would be pretty flexy.

After a calm and pleasantly warm (66*) and calm Sunday, today: 25 to 35
gusts to 50 W/WSW today. Am not riding today but hope to tomorrow.
Tomorrow: 25 to 35, gusts to 40, NW.
How deal with this? One way is to ride early before they really kick up,
but tomorrow that would mean getting up early eno
Hi all, just a quick question to users of the above stems.
Nitto claims it's not intended for off-road riding, however I see a lot of
builds (who look very off-road to me) with said stems.
Has anyone used them in rough-ish terrain? I don't ride technical trails
but I don't ride on pavement eith

Bill and John,
Appreciate both of your thoughts and suggestions! We will of-course touch
up the frame so it doesn't rust in the future, but yes- pretty gnarled.

option, and maybe I'll go that route if it comes to it. We'

Hello Bill & Bill!
YIKES! So sorry about the frame scrapage! That hurts to look at! DARN!
I agree with Bill L on his well versed knowledge.
May I add my two cents?
I cannot tell from the bike photo what cassette ring count is on the Clem.
Is it a 9 speed? 10? More?

Hi Brenton,
If you have a 57 Roadini and a 57 Sam from a recent MIT generation, their

little longer, how would you compare the rides? Interested in the feel on
the road and capabilities on non-paved roads (which you've al
Tire inserts with tubeless can make a huge difference with gravel width
tires and allow you to run pressures down another 5psi or so. I don’t know
your weight, but anything other than reasonably groomed trails can be rough

I was doing a very difficult gravel ride on my carbon gravel bike yesterday

I have three thoughts on the matter. Maybe four...maybe 5. Some, or all,
maybe don't apply to your situation.
1. The first photo has the chain sucked all the way around to the top of
the cranks, and my brain goes to "why did they keep pedaling that long?".
