Very nicely done Bill. Since reading Will's email a while back about
potentially making the bike a 5 speed, I was thinking I would take on that
task. Now I might not have to, ha.
My thought was that I could get a narrower Q-factor and a small range of
useable gears. Almost like a classic randonn

What a beautiful bike. And the gear chart! 1x before 1x was 'a thing,' and
that's a great gear set, both in the range and the specifics.
Congratulations. I'm happy you've got that bike.
As Bill said, a bike build that's more wonderful because of the mana of the
builder/rider is
Sacto seems like such a cool bike town. I rode out there so many years ago
for NAHBS and had a blast. Great write up!

I had that Duron headset on a bike where I could not get the preload dialed
in correctly, ever. I replaced it with a Tange Falcon, but wonder if I had
the same misalignment issue. I also wondered if it was a counterfeiit. My
install tool is also a threaded rod and washers.

Liz,
What a fun story! I enjoyed reading it and smiled and chuckled. Your
writing is fantastic, not exaggerating. You and Leah have inspired me to
search for these types of rides in my area. Keep the ride reports coming

If I get a Clem I'll use -- what should I call them? Road tires?

Congratulations! I take it that that is Sheldon's gear chart, too? Please
do post photos of your own modifications.

Thanks for the input, Peter. I appreciate your experience and concern. One
advantage of metal fenders that have to be custom-fit is that you have more
latitude for manipulating them. I manually flared the 50mm Berthoud fenders

Oh this is just lovely.
So happy to see that bike landed in the right hands, congratulations!

Berthoud fenders are not consistent in their dimensions from end to end.
And the 60mm fenders are 60mm on the outside. If you look at the underside
of the Berthoud fenders, you'll see that the metal is folded underneath,
and that makes the inside dimension much smaller than the outside (60mm)

Seems 26" fender choices are getting slimmer and slimmer. I wanted to find
metal fenders for my Toyo Atlantis w/ 1.8" Naches Pass tires, and ended up
going with 50mm Berthoud fenders. 60mm were recommended by the folks at
Peter White and Berthoud, but I went with my gut on the 50mm and they

I am running tubeless 2.5" Teravail Ehline tires on my 54cm (medium) Gus. I
enjoy the tubeless setup because when I ride local mtb trails I typically
