Thanks Ted,
Was definitely thinking about all the potential feedback--and wishing 603s
became a thing so I could plug them into my older bikes.
Thanks for the good words!

Small world, I'm around the corner from the coffee shop in Highland Park.
The Garfield water tower only last week became obscured by foliage from my
front porch view to the right. I start many a ride with Stanton Avenue,

What Jay said. I've been forever happy with the orange Ram that I bought
some 20 years ago.

Told myself I would sell this before getting the bike I wanted, but got it
anyway - and now most of the parts are transitioning over. Just the frame
with HS/BB for sale now. $1850 shipping included, or $1750 local pick up!
This size is sold out at Rivendell for both colors.

Orange Sam Hillbornes and Orange Rambouillets are both "sparkly metallic

Does anyone know if the Sam Hilborne Orange is the same as Rambouillet

Man, I bought some Chaco suede ToeCoop clogs off eBay last week and they
are awesome. For those who balk at the Bedrock price tag and need the extra
width and arch support they are a great option. Unfortunately, they are no
longer made so eBay is probably the only option.

As someone who stands on the sidelines and reads about others' Clems, and
thinks that he too might one day buy one as a sort of "just ride" beater

Who has spent the least amount of money on a Clem, in what year, and built
with what parts?

When I built up the third Riv I bought, a Cheviot, after having bought a

not knowing what I didn’t know, and rejoined a section of 9 speed chain
with the previous pin, instead of using an extra quick link. Shortly after
Hi Folks, I love my Platypus, but use it mostly for grocery and kid
carrying and have realized that at my own 200lbs, it flexes just a little
bit too much when I have my daughter on the back of the bike or heavy
groceries in the front.

+1 on the fender washers and threaded rod. If you're not building bikes
every day, this solution works remarkably well.

For sure, the axiom 'Know Thyself' applies here.
Regarding the earlier suggestion to 'have at it' should probably be
tempered with honest assessment of your skills and inclinations. I think my
greatest fear has been, among others like cross-threading, for example,
dropping a wrench on fragile tubi
Yes I do have the Bedrock Cairn sandal. I followed the sizing instructions
on Bedrocks site. I think I was more true to size. I agree that I could use
a half size bigger.

Congratulations on that gorgeous Susie! Did you find it difficult to schlep it around on public transportation, or was it not a big deal?As for tires, I’ve only had Teravail Ehline 2.5s on my Gus, and I have found them quite enjoyable for cruising around town on pavement and they’re great on trails
I know you are mechanically inclined. I am not. But either way, I would
be impatient and would want to ride it immediately so I'd let them build
it. At least the first time. When I got my complete, I was so happy just
to jump on and ride it. It was 99% perfect. I hardly changed anything.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing the build details and pictures.

In Stanton Heights, so every ride ends with a climb!
Both bikes are rapid-rise, so in theory the springs and cables are at their
most restful setting.

Not only are these two in their smallest gear but also in the appropriate
cranks 90° to the seat tube, drive side high, suggestive of being ready to
put it to the pedals and climb!
