@Sarah,
I, too, decided to switch over from friction shifting in the back to
indexing with leaving the friction shifter for the front. I found it very
frustrating trying to find the right gears going uphill. It slowed my
momentum.

If you say you live in your 34, but sometimes spin out, while wanting a
lower gear as well, then a triple is a good choice.
You can set up the common 74/110 triple, like the Silver, Soma Clipper,
etc. as a 24-34-44, and pair that with a 12-36 in the rear and have your “3
cassettes on one bike”
I haven't checked in a year or so, but the last few SON hubs I purchased
were all from European mail order sites (SJS/Bike24/Condor/Berthoud/etc)
and were significantly cheaper as a result of favorable exchange rates and
no VAT, despite the shipping cost.

I went in on the Blue version Kickstarter and have been using that lock on my E-cargo bike in conjunction with an Abus Bordo lock. No problems in the few years I have been using it.I do like the lock. It has a wide opening and is long enough that I am usually able to attach it to what I want to loc

I have the Tigr Mini and have used it for the past 4+ years. It seems quite
secure and allows me to get a front wheel/frame locked in most cases. I
usually pair mine with a cable to get the rear wheel. I'd recommend it if
you'd like to shed the weight of a heavy Kryptonite u-lock.

Here's what I was thinking of. It's a Roadini with Wavie bars. I think I
would like the Albastache better with the brakes up front like my Cheviot,
but that's my personal preference.

So for some of you following the convoluted saga of my seized stem, this
epic yarn which began in June has at last concluded with
- an un-seized stem, now raised considerably higher
- an overhaul tune-up, because why not??
- a derailleur/cassette upgrade from 1x10 with a 105 to a 1x11 with an

Hi all, still looking and now hoping for a traditional diamond frame,
especially a Toyo or Waterford Atlantis/Homer with a flat top tube.
Thanks!

It is worth noting there are or at least *were* some versions of 32F racks
with center drilled front tabs for lights or reflectors. I had one and
would have offered to trade if I didn't already saw and file away the tab
when it impacted tire clearance on a previous build. I now use the cut

Forgive me for bike-splaining here, but it seems like you're narrowing it
down, so here's some more for your consideration.
Given where you ride, it makes sense to start with a triple, since that
will cover all your bases (steep uphills, general riding, and fast
downhills).

thanks to both of you for responding. the chainring definitely wins the
aesthetics contest but i may ultimately end up with that tanaka mount that
realizes what i was trying to jerryrig with my zipties. for me nothing
beats having the light mounted in the center.

For road riding, at least in my world, a 1X10 with granny ring works fine:
95" high and 1-tooth steps in the cruising range, bigger gaps between the
inner cogs, with a much smaller granny ring.
But I did find that I missed a triple when riding rolling offroad terrain,
neither firm and flat nor ste

I have both a Toyo Atlantis and an early Sam Hillborne. I agree that the
Atlantis is pretty stout and I don't notice much flexing, even if pushed
hard. My Sam feels lighter and easier to get up to cruising speed when
riding. I ride them both in the city, light touring, and limited MTB
trails, t
IMO redundant gears are more of a conceptual or theoretical concern than a
real issue. If you’re setting up a triple, you really end up with:
- a middle ring for the majority of your riding
- a small ring for big hills, use it with the biggest cogs in back
- a big ring for downhills or otherwise g
Thank you for bringing up the redundant gears... in my brain I'm telling
myself maybe it's overkill... but is it really such a terrible thing?

Bike nerd input is heartily welcomed. Gearing has been a challenge for me
to understand but from spending hours reading and trying things out I'm
starting to understand... thanks to other bike nerds!
The outcome is I will likely be giving a triple a try. The 34 is my
favorite chain ring to live

hi pals, I'm considering buying a widebody 32h son hub in the near future.
just checking if anyone's seen them pop up on any of the consumer
bacchanalia sales over the weekend :)
