So it’s been 15 months. I love the bike and extoll it’s virtues to anyone
who asks (and to some who don’t). It was not love at first sight. I bought
a clem for it’s personality - and price. Comfort and off-road capability
were the inducements. As time passed I came to appreciate clem’s beauty
We have to wait for the weekend for sunlight pics?? I object!

I know you asked Eric but I'll chime in anyway, it's what I do!
I think the Roadini is a fine road bike as is, and will work great for
someone else if your needs have changed and you need bigger tires, fenders,
and brakes that will work with both in wet weather. There's a lot of

Love everything about it!
Can you tell us a little more about the front rack?
Who made it?
How does it attach at the top?
How does it attach at the bottom?
Any issues with it?
Cool!

My experience with long reach sidepull and center pull brakes on wet rims
is that they both suck.
I did a rough experiment: I sprayed my rim with my water bottle,
accelerated to about 15 mph, and grabbed the front brake as hard as I
could. The long reach brake bike took about twice the stopping d
Thanks all for your thoughts so far. This is shaping up to be a more
complicated change than I thought (but then again, aren't all bike changes
are?) ...
Joe - I like your suggestion of using centerpulls. I actually thought that
center pull required dedicated braze-on on frames but a quick res
Long reach calipers + wet rims = no noticeable stopping power. Not
recommended, even if you can live with a very low bottom bracket.

Bruce, I believe your Riv Road started with short-reach caliper brakes. The
mid-reach variety thst Shimano made and Riv put on the Rambouillet didn't
exist yet.

I ride a '95 Riv Road size 54.5 which is too tall for me in 700c. The long
reach Tektro/Silver calipers do work with 650B wheels and I have only
ridden it that way. It will take 38mm tires w/o fenders. I know Joe said
it won't help your Roadini, but if you can borrow a caliper and do a test

Kushan:
Keep in mind the bottom bracket will be lower so the likelihood of pedal
strike will be present when you lean the bike into a turn. Pedal selection
plays a part too; shorter cranks (165 / 160) would be a consideration to
help reduce pedal strike. This was my experience with a mid-80s Tr
As posted over at ibob, this is a quixotic quest, I'm sure, but if anyone
knows of a Heron Randonneur frame for sale, I'd be happy to learn (I see
one out there on CL, but it is a 55 cm frame). I think few of these frames
were made, so the chances are slim.

The great thing about that particular animal is that you get companionship

Nice! They included a Pushmi-Pullyu with my Atlantis last year for no
particular reason. Maybe all completes come with it now? Maybe it just got
stuck to the font hub skewer when packing and they didn't mean to? Maybe I
should have told them and offered to send it back?

Yeah, the Clem to some qualifies as a "beater bike", albeit a still
relatively expensive one. The term is meant to convey something of a lesser
investment/value/importance that one feels more liberated to be creative
with. If you bought a new custom Riv, or a say a shiny new car would
