I recommend hunting down a nice silver set of Ultegra derailleurs. I don't
have the model numbers handy, but whatever's shiny and matches a 3x9
search. I have a Sugino XD crankset on my Sam Hillborne - running as a
double with the inner two rings and the outer ring filed to a chainguard.

I posted last month about doing a brevet on my Roadeo, and I teased about
planning to do a September brevet on my Legolas. Toshi hinted he'd look
for me.
Today was brevet day and it all happened as planned. I did the Santa Cruz
Randonneurs Moss Beach 200k in honor of the Centenary of ACP. I
Be prepared and think snow! I must let go of my beloved studded snow tires.
They are excellent for commuting during the winter months. Very low use on
this set. Perfect for your Trash Bike or backup 90s' commuter.

Hi Thomas, thanks for the info. That is exactly what I did. I had to go get
a new cutting wheel for my Dremel, but it worked out just fine. I kept the
light on the fender, left the nut on the bolt and then cut off around 5mm.
I cleaned up the trimmed end, loosened the nut all the way to help cle
I am sure that you are absolutely correct about the stem playing into it. I
would actually drop this stem a touch but it's one of those overly long one
stems and that is literally as low as it will go. I ordered a Nitto MT
mountain stem which would have been shorter in length and angled up a tou
Hey Todd,
I’ve had to do this too, and you’re definitely not barking up the wrong tree by
trimming this. I simply threaded a nut all the way on, cut off my desired
portion, cleaned things up with a file and then removed the nut to help chase
the threads. Good luck!

Hello all, I recently mounted a Secula Plus taillight to my rear Honjo
fender. It seems the mounting bolt is too long and the tire will rub it
periodically. I am confident that this bolt is the culprit as it is the
longest by far.
I want to trim it down some, but don’t recall if this bolt is r

I am posting this for a friend who is not on the Rivendell list. He is
looking to sell his Bleriot (61 cm) complete. He’s throwing in some
bike-related paraphernalia as well, since he no longer cycles.
Local pickup in the San Francisco Bay Area area is highly preferred. He a
I'll only add that don't limit yourself to just 28.6mm FD's.
Nashbar/Performance bike sell 31.8mm Ultegra shims for about 4 bucks plus 2

Long shot, but let me know if anyone is holding onto a set of v-brake
compatible (long-pull, linear) drop bar levers. I have a set of the Tektro
RL520, but I’m wanting to lay my hands on a pair of Evo-V levers from
Dia-Compe. The only options I can find online are ebay sellers in Japan or the

Thank you all for the great recommendations and photos! I'm on my way.
David, I'll let you know if I decide to part ways with that RD.
