Some people lash their stuff directly to the rack. I use bungees to securely attach a sleeping pad and my sleeping bag to a small rack. With a set-up like that I'm ready for a camp-out without using any bags at all. I've also seen people attach a full suit of raingear with a toe strap. Peter
