A group of 7 friends and I took a long weekend trip to the Methow Valley in
the North Cascades of Washington. Long before I got a Betty Foy, I dreamed
of riding single track, but couldn't find much locally that wasn't very
technical trails that required mountain bikes. My friend Kay, a seasoned

Curtis and Tom,
Yes I'd like to do this ride very much. I've ridden parts of the ride you
did Curtis but not with Coronado Island and ferry thrown in. Any pics while
on the ferry? I haven't seen any on Flickr as of this post.

Shawn G is right. I have Amtrak'ed to Whitefish with a bike, and it is as
he has described. My train was about 6 hours late into WFH, though, which
meant getting to my hotel a block from the station at 3am.

I was still 15+ miles from the bridge when I overheard someone saying that the

Hi,
Now that the new standard has been set for proof of ride (music video) not
sure if pictures will be sufficient.
However, just in case here is the link:

Good job! Somehow when you were talking about this ride I wasn't picturing
something on this scale. Glad you had fun out there and the weather held,
mostly. Great set of photos, too. Reminds me I haven't been out that way
since June...

Well, I made it to Portland and put in about 95 miles on Friday, riding from
Troutdale, OR, into Washington state, then up the Columbia River to Bridge of
the Gods and back on the Oregon side. Photos prove it happened:

Maybe my feet aren't that tough, but I don't like the sneaker pedals that Riv
sells with no sneakers on! But I love them with shoes or flip flops. Not
enough flat surface. The Ergons look good and pricey. Harris Cyclery sells the
good and cheap ones that look like Raleigh's from the '70's rubbe
I did that ride back in April while in town on travel... What a cool tour

I used it briefly on a SimpleOne. Very nice riding tire, but I like something
with more volume. Its color is quite dark brown.

I'd have to either spread or cold-set the rear spacing and I'd like to keep
it 5-speed for the time-being.
The rest of the drivetrain would be fine. I went from a 50-42 Campy Record
crankset to a 53-39 Shimano Ultegra 9-speed crankset to get some lower
ratios and I run a 9 speed chain.

That's not all that hard a problem to find a solution for. You could buy
their 14-28 six-speed cassette and just run an 8-speed chain. I'm sure the
rest of your drivetrain would take that, wouldn't you think? Or, if you've
stockpiled a bunch of 5-speed chains and want to stay period, they bui

Whoops, I just reread the posting, where the lock nut is spinning out. In
this case, it may be that the thread is stripped on the axle. Worth
