You may want to be fast...I think I underestimated the interest these
would garner. 20 are spoken for already, I have 10 or so left.
Maybe wise to check before sending funds from now on. I can have more
made, but the turn time is like 3 weeks. I don't want to have people
waiting.

Notice that it's warming up a bit, probably up to 92F. That's by 1-2:00
though, so should be in the 80's for most of the ride. Still, bring two H20
bottles and hydrate on the way over.
Bring food, too. There's a supermarket on the way, but there would be a
detour to get to it.

So here is the story...turning the "way-back" machine to about 1996,

to recount how many times we had done this. As it turned out, it was

I've used both tires albeit on differently sized rims (XR 26x50 & Big

The Big Apple works well at a variety of pressures, though at the high
end, you lose the benefits of fat tire "suspension."

Peter White in a thread on his forum recently opined Schwalbe's higher
recommended psi is too high by 10. He did not say anything about
underinflation that I am aware of.
Like you, I would be concerned about going as low as 30 on a smaller
rim.

I tried Ernesto and quickly gave up on it because when it came off the
chain as the chain spun, the oil and gunk would adhere to the rear rim

I used the regular procedure of oiling the chain and then wiping it with

I'd go by what's printed on the tire. I always rode mine at approx
40-55 psi on Velocity Dyad rims, and I'm pretty sure I experimented as
low as 20-30 psi with no obvious problems. I think 70 is too much for
my tastes, rides rough, etc. I'd also shy away from going down to 30
on narrower rims. But

Fenders are 50mm Berthoud. They work well with the 35mm Paselas. At the

I fondly remember getting my cycling merit badge many years ago. Fifty miles
seemed like such a long trip, I think they even gave us a time limit to
complete the ride IIRC. I think the original spirit of scouting has many
similarities to rivishness, which is part of the appeal of both.

Jim I could use some clarification. The XR's lowest pressure

I have used both on my Atlantis, with fenders. They are about equally
heavy, and both are tough, versatile, etc.
I wouldn't spend much time thinking about gearing, as the actual gear-
increase from the bigger tires is on the order of 2%, while a jump
from one cog to the next is 5-10%. Most of us

My 700x32 Paselas measure 30mm wide and Ruffy Tuffy's measure 26.5mm

I have the patch for doing that trip. Aside from the merit badges, you can
earn 50 mile patches for both hiking (got that one too for a week long backpack
on the Long Trail in VT) and cycling. (Both cases as an adult leader with the
