running clamd as root works for me, this is why it works without a
problem using clamav 0.60, which ran clamd as root by default. This
seemed to be the lesser of 2 evils, having /var/spool/qmailsca
dir for testing.

I had the same problem myself actually. Not to sure if its a issue with Slackware or whatnot. The odd thing is I have used qmail-scanner on a few Slackware boxes and sometimes it works with qscand owning it and sometimes it doesent. I have heard that there were a few Slackware Qmail HOWTOs floating
Hi,
This worked except now I'm getting the error:

scanner error or memory/resource/perms problem - exit status 2
so I'm off in search of the answer to that.
Thanks

Hi,
Sorry, my first reply went to Ryan instead of the list. I'll try it again:
I guess qmail-scanner isn't running as qscand because changing the owner to qscand
didn't work. ps auxf doesn't show qmail-scanner in the list. How can I tell how
qmail-scanner is running?

qmail-scanner-queue.pl -z you need to make sure you are running it as

Hi!
I have the qmail/vpopmail/qmailadmin/spamassassin/qmailscanner combo with all the
latest patches.
All aspects of this setup work except the qmail-scanner.
When I compile tcpserver to point QMAILQUEUE to qmail-scanner-queue.pl nothing works
anymore.
In my maillog I get:
X-Qmail-Scanner-1.
Hi all,
I'm getting a permission denied error, and wondered if anyone had any
suggestions.

You actually didn't need to do that. There is already a perl-suidperl RPM
that's part of the normal distro - it just isn't installed by d
I think you need to change the tcp rules file to point to the wrapper
and not the scaner queue
ie
% cat /etc/tcpcontrol/smtp.rules
#:allow
:allow,QMAILQUEUE="/var/qmail/bin/qmail-scanner-queue"
ie run the wrapper and not the perl scanner as this should have had it's
permission bits set.

Hi!
After two weeks of successfully using qmail on my Linux box, today I tried
to install Qmail-scanner.
I have Dave Sill's book and followed its instructions.
The qmail is patched for QMAILQUEUE, I have all therequired Perl modules,
reformime is installed, as well as TNEF unpacker.
