If you will use FPSCAND, scanning will be as fast as clamdscan.
I think, that Miroslav Urbanek has submitted such patch.

I emailed Jason updated scanning routines for the latest version of F-Prot
on August 1st last year.
There were a few lose ends in the code because I'm not that good at creating
regular expressions in Perl, but I included all the F-Prot output as text so
that it would be possible to finish it
