I don't know what a Fedora/EPEL update is.
If you're going to have two versions, I would suggest:
0.7.9 - for backwards compatibility with Python 2.5 and less, and older
0.6 and 0.7 xlrd releases.
0.9.2 - for Python 3 support, and with the latest and greatest features.
