Barry A. Warsaw added the comment: This isn't a bug in Python, since it does the right thing by aliasing 'utf8' with 'utf-8'. If this is incompatible with external mail tools, then you should use 'utf-8' instead, but I don't think Python should change that underneath you. -- resolution
