Load these packages as indicated:
vnc-3.3.3r2-39(at home)
vnc-doc-3.3.3r2-39 (both)
vnc-server-3.3.3r2-39 (at office)

1.) bandwith !
Try to use XDMCP( X Protocol) on slow modem connection
and do it again with VNC.
2.) XDMCP is a kind of authentication protocol for XDM login manager.
The protocol used by X Apps is X-P
VNC is stateless so if you loose connectivity the
process still runs.

VNC means you don't need a X server on a Windows box. Here at work, I VNC to
my Linux box, so that I can use my Linux email clients and whatnot. It'

If you have a terminal all you need to do is issue the command to startup your
favorite window manager (i.e. startkde). Because X should already be running on
the host box so now running the window manager is just like getting any other X
app to display. No need to mess with VNC if you already have

Must be something you have set up. Default 8.0 install ("install
everything") will start Bluecurve the first time you run VNC for a user
who has never logged in before. I just verified it on an extremely new
and clean installat
On a win machine that is true you will see the normal
desktop. But not on an Unix box.

Pierre:
I am using the following xstartup file for RedHat 8.0:
#!/bin/csh -fb
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
# Select window manager of choice:
exec /usr/bin/gnome-session &

Good luck!

You need to start the vncserver on your machine and
then connect to it and work on the vncserver as
opposed to the desktop you are connecting from. As
Chris already pointed out, you sh
I do have VNC but can't get the desktop to the remote display.

You could try using VNC to fully access your X
display.
