Yep, I tried a compiling a third time. Just for fun and games, even though I've done this successfully many times on 7.3, I carefully followed the procedure spelled out in Red Hat Linux 8.0: The Official Red Hat Linux Customization Guide, Appendix A. Building A Custom Kernel. Compiles still segfaul
