that the DHCP response to the machine includes a proper netmask and
default gateway, and that the host that will be providing the OS is

if it could be, I think it would be difficult at best. You're using DHCP
for obtaining IP information to the host right? There is a dhcrelay that
should do this, but I never tried it.
