thanks for this reply, I posted my response before I saw it. Before the
solution, the etc/hosts was empty, also I tried it unsuccessfully with a line
localhost.localdomain
As I mentioned I found a solution was to add a line
192.168.100.4 localhost.localdomain beta localhost
