Here is the part of the tcpdump where the connection is lost. At about the
same time as the arp request there is also a kernel message on the console
about martians originating from the gateway at the isp.

Hi,
Should an arp entry be flushed if you are
constantly talking to the hardware pointed to in the arp table?
I have a problem where my connection is
experiencing a 30-45 second pause every 30 minutes, this pause effectively cuts
off an https connection we have running for a specific appl
Does anyone have some links to good how-to's on
configuring snmpd? I want to try out MRTG to monitor the traffic and
just generally give me some statistics on a gateway I have set up. MRTG
uses snmp to get data from various machines but I've never set up snmp
before.
Thanks,
Justin.

You need the image file. It is the initial RAM disk that linux uses to boot
the system. Try 'man mkinitrd', basically you need to run this in /boot
(assuming you've already copied your kernel to there).
mkinitrd -v imagename kernel
imagename can be whatever you want and you use that name in gru
USB Flash disks appear as SCSI partitions, you need to mount the disk, it
should be /dev/sda1 if there are no other SCSI devices in your system.

I had a similar problem a year or two ago. It's a bit hazy but from what I
remember the iptables script wouldn't run if put in /etc/sysconfig/iptables,
I actually had to run it separately after networking had been brought up
(ran from rc.local I think). All I could put it down to was that as the

Does it need TRANS.TBL in the RedHat and RedHat/RPMS directories. There is
one on each disk so they overwrite each other.

How do I turn off DMA mode for an ide-tape device
by default, similar to what Red Hat do with CD-ROMs. If the tape is used
in DMA mode it corrupts the filesystem so I want to make sure there is no chance
that it can be accidentally used with DMA turned on.
Justin.
You might want to check that the drives aren't faulty. I just had two
Maxtor 160GB disks fail and it turns out they were faulty. Download
Powermax from Maxtor's web site and test the drives.

Hi,
I'm having some problems with an IDE tape drive, it is a Sony SDX-420C. I
seem to be able to tar data to the tape device without any problems, but
when I go to test or restore the archive on the tape everything dies
horribly. Testing the archive with the following commands immediately after

Try 3Ware, they are hardware raid and have support built into the kernel.
3Ware release new drivers with each bios update on their cards (it's best to
use the driver version that matches your controller's bios).

Well said Mike, though I must say that most of the boards seem to be exact
replicas of ATI's reference design. The only real difference is likely to
be the quality of the RAM that is used.
As a side note, ATI just released an updated version of the Linux drivers
