What I do is add the users that are going to share the partition into a
common group, e.g. "data1". Then, in /etc/samba/smb.config, I put
something like this:

I don't know if this is the problem, but I've noticed that the
gnome-terminal is very slow starting up if effects are turned on (e.g.
background image or transparency).
