I don't remember anyone mentioning this potential factor but I've heard
certain ISP considering throttling Torrent traffic. Could it be
something out of Whil's control at play here?

Or for the command line challenged, click on the Add/Remove Software
menu option. When the Add/Remove Software GUI Dialog appears, do a
search on azureus. When azureus appear in the display window, click on
the check box adjacent to it, and then click on the [Apply] button.

make sure you have a port open on your firewall for incoming bittorent
connections and make sure you have that port specified in the
bittorent client, that speeds things up greatly.

I wouldn't be so sure about uTorrent being free forever. Sometime
developers place a fish hook hidden inside the freeware bait, and the
hook is timed to be set at the right moment. Once the hook is set the
user is locked into the product and pays the tax.
Open Source Software has a license up
In case you are interested, under Linux, I am using rTorrent. I am
running it as a GNU screen session.

I found the answer to my question in the uTorrent FAQ:
#--
Is µTorrent open source?
No. It is not likely to become open source ever.

Actually, installing the JRE is not the headache it once was. It's
already installed in most versions of Linux, or can be easily installed
with the tools provided by the various Linux distributions, now that
Sun has released Java to the Open Source community.

I also use Azureus. It's a slick application. The only downside of
running Azureus is you will need the Java Runtime Environment installed
in your OS. I'm running Azureus under Linux.

Also, the more people using bittorrent at the same time to download a
particular item; the faster the download will go for everybody, as all
the participants will be sharing pieces of the downlaod with each other
as they capture bits of the whole.

Went to grab the latest F7 iso via BitTorrent. 700 MB for KDE live.
It's been running on a line with no other traffic, I've got it throttled
up as high as possible. It was being pokey (40 KB/s down, 80 KB/s up),
and had about 5 hours to go, so I started goofing around.
