in thunderbird you have two options
"SSL/TLS"
"StARTTLS"
on port 465 you have to use "SSL/TLS"
the same for imaps/pop3s on dedicated ports
if port / enycryption is in the wrong combination it will not
work, happens most time if you changed the ports manually
