That is exactly what it says, a service time out when you are sending
email. You are probably on a very active server, a very bad/slow or busy
connection.
How busy is your server? Do you have some network stats?

No wait... What?
This is no attack. Attack is when you try to break or enforce.. This is
a probe, and from the probe we can deduce from the reported disconnect
that 1. helo was tried, 2. no auth was attempted and 3, quit was used.
So a test for helo and quit? and no auth.

Hi Sean,
Thank you for your advise, your folder solution is brilliant and simple.
Sometimes I tend to over think the problem.
That is going to work perfectly for my users.

"postfix-dev" and a "libghc-regex-pcre-dev". But these libraries have
not solved my error.
Can anyone shed some light on the subject.

Anyone have a recommendation for a 'free' client for a mac os x that

OK, thanks... but that doesn't answer my question.

I'd like to *not run SASL at all* rather than have it do the lookups.

Is it possible to configure Postfix for SMTP-AUTH *without* using SASL/PAM?
We're trying to keep things simple here, and I'd really rather prefer to
just have Postfix do lookups in a text file or straight from the unix
accounts for SMTP-AUTH.
Is it do-able?

So, I have a /usr/local/etc/postfix/vmaps which looks like this (and I
used postmap /usr/local/etc/postfix/vmaps to build a vmaps.db file out of
it):
