We have an email "toaster" that accepts smtp connections from the Internet,
runs some blacklisting checks, discards email to non-existent recipient
addresses, then sends all mail on to another server where final delivery takes
place.
No delivery takes place on the toaster.

Thanks for weighing in with very valuable points one the limitations of
SMTP-TLS. Rest assured that I am well aware of them, especially of the
inherent quality of the SMTP "system" that the client is predominantly
resposible for the e-mail security policy.

That way your primary queue is only for deliveries, and your 2nd
instance can handle the bounces.
