I am sure it is not a firewall problem. I can fix it by (1)
uninstalling the Spotify plugin - LMS restarts and (2) reinstalling the
Spotify plugin - LMS rest

I'm using McAfee Security Software. spotifyd.exe and Spotify both have
full access and I have opened Port 9005.

thanks for your response. along with erland's line of plugins, your NPR
plugin is an absolute essential part of my listening experience with my
squeezeboxes.

I fixed it and here's what I've learned:
If you have LMS set to "Automatically run at system start", it will NOT
work if your music is on a network share that uses different
credentials. You MUST have it set to "Automatically run at login".

The plugin relies on the text version of NPR - thin.npr.org and this
seems to be broken. This hapopens every so often - I have sent NPR a
message. As thin.npr.org is intended for users with impaired sight, it
usually gets fixed quickly but I suspect NPR may drop it in the future.
