I'm using XFCE 4 on FC3, It's great in terms of speed.
a download of 23.5 MB. Installation is very easy just
extract the file, and install the RPMs. But the
desktop is not as rich as GNOME or KDE [without XFCE
plugins and goodies]. If you are concerned for speed
only then XFCE is a good option
