I tried ubuntu 8.04, Ubuntu 8.10, Suse 11, Fedora 10 and Debian 4 on M2N-MX
SE.
Till now I have not found any driver problem with this Asus mother board.
But other series P5GC-MX, I have not used yet.

if i land up in similar situation... i would evaluate what it costs to
put a new network card into the system and also keep pursuing the MB
Mfg.
if the costs are not phenomenally hi, would put new nic into system
and get going without forgetting to check the MB mfg once in a while
