The website I checked out to compare the cards showed the age of the
cards. The 710 was first sold in 2015 and 2017 for the 580. I can't
see myself spending several hundred for the latest and greatest.

the 710 is almost a decade old even though it is being sold. the 580 is
still several core architectures behind.

I looked up the two cards you mentioned and they perform pretty much the
same, but they appear to blow the GT710 out of the water if this is to
be believed. I think I'll give up on getting nvenc to work on the gt
710. I imagine the rx580 will do much better.

That sounds good. I don't play a lot of games on this thing. The most
graphics intensive thing I do with it is watching videos or a little
video editing.

Thise are in the 50-100 price range that the 710 is.

The card I have now is a GeForce GT 710. What Radeon card would be
equivalent to that? I don't want to buy something that turns out to be
slower.

I'm switching. The next time I buy a graphics card it won't be Nvidia.
In fact, I don't have to wait that long. The computer I have has an
Intel gpu on the motherboard. I just need a couple of adapters.
Neither monitor connects to a display port.

I am running Wayland on an arch derivative called Garuda Linux. It runs
really well but I have a desktop with dedicated amd graphics.
Previously on a Intel/Nvidia laptop with Optimus it worked fine until I
tried to flip flop graphics for gaming and ended up having to shut off the
Intel gpu and run

of Nvidia users out there. I read that about Plasma 6 not being

about it later. Th
