Scanning with no problem. It also can use over size paper such as 11" x 17" and
other features.

I can only attest to one model, but my Brother DCP-L2640DW worked
straight out of the box. No installing anything. It magically appeared
and worked (both printing and scanning), both Linux (Solus Budgie) and
Windows.

Thanks for reporting back. I couldn't take HP's silliness anymore and also got
a Brother. I too have been impressed with how it "just works" without

(other than adult children who should know better but at least they're using
Mac and not windblows).
Anyway, both work pretty well. One has a scan feeder for multiple pages scan,
