Immediately after locking myself out I contacted support. They told me
they could not help. At that point I destroyed my droplet. I had not
done much so it was not a great loss. Another learning experience

Actually, that last link was a Digital Ocean console through ssh. It looks
like they do have recovery console access which is like sitting in from of
the machine.

Is there a way to log in via your account DigitalOcean? I did the same
thing on my Vultr.com account but I was able to access the terminal via VNC.

I don't remember, but I feel like DO wants you to use SSH keys by default,
and opens 22 by default. You should be able to add keys from the console.
Can you telnet to port 22 and not get a "port closed" message?
