even in times of *-buildpackage tools there must be a way to repeat the
package build. And yours doesn't work.
Repro:

-> ok
debian/rules clean
debian/rules build

memory. Like... vlc /tmp/hangme

Repro steps:
Get a system with two monitors (dual head gfx)
Start with one monitor, then enable the second head with xrandr
Run VLC, main window appears on the first screen
Move it to the second screen
Press any menu
Result: menu controls appear sun
