made the error go away.
Therefore I tried replacing this memset by a for loop and an assignment

TBH I don't know; I figure back then it failed to build with
-Wl,--as-needed (as we have in Ubuntu by default)

I can confirm this bug after dist-upgrading from wheezy to jessie. Audio
export defaults to .aiff in all cases.
