Is it possible that there are some other settings in a virtual-server
configuration?
Or a .htaccess file that overrides these setting?

i have some trouble using imap functions with php.
php 4.3.6 has been compiled with --with-imap=/usr/local
and the imap-c-client2004rc9
include files rfc822.h/mail.h/linkage.h where copied to
/usr/local/include
phpinfo() tells me it has in version 4.1 also.

i find that sometimes i have to edit the Makefile for my installs,
because i got openssl installed somewhere else, and Makefile is statical
directed to /usr/local/... for ssl.
i changed that, and c-client compiles with ssl - sometimes i forgot to
copy the newest linkage.h to /usr/local/i
