You can set a date/time column in the user table which is checked at log in.
In the login form have a calculation based on the date/time; (over
simplification)

How can I control the number of users?
I want to create a DB driven website where users create their own user
accounts. But with a limitation of the number of accounts, and when the
maximum is reached, no one can create a new account. I even want to limit
the lifetime of an account.
