Over-complicating it? Yes, I must admit that's true. The problem however
was not that I didn't understand the question, but that I apparently was
hostile. For someone extra-sensitive, I think I could've looked like
that, but I still don't think I was out of line with my original reply,

You guys are over-complicating this. If you want to help someone and don't
understand their question, just say so. People asking for help are usually
more than happy to provide additional information or rephrase their
question.
Be careful when using the question, "Are you new to PHP?". It has
By this point, I am trying to speak generally. Not trying to pick on
Bogdan specifically, since communication can always be improved.

Hmm...
The only question I could possibly have asked to leave it open enough to
all the possibilities was basically the one I asked. That's because
possible reasons for not writing his own function may have been:
- he wanted a very basic gradient, but he was such a newbie in PHP that
he didn't know ho

That was my problem with your post--why imply the question, and leave
it open to interpretation? Why not
"It seems pretty straightforward to me." is more responsible than
"It's pretty straightforward." Nice time to be changing your story ;)

It didn't seem straightforward to the original writer, or else why
the question...
Yes, it actually would've been should the person who started the thread
answered (instead of a wise-guy saying "That's very helpful" - in this
case, no, it didn't prove to be). That's because that way we would've
found out what exactly he needed ("Of course the change can be only

I wrote a Color gradient in GD it is actually very simple. Though you need
GD 2.x and mine is designed to go from left to right changing the color to
the center line then changing it back to the edge. If your interested let
me know and I'll send you a code snippet. Though I would like to see
Exactly! Of course the change can be only across a part of an image.
