[PHP] Does $_SESSION work in any release?

Running Apache,linux,php4.1.2 and I can't get $_SESSION to work, creates the temp file but doesn't actually put anything in it. There appears to be a bug report saying it is broke but does anyone know what version (if any) $_SESSION actually works in? I'm trying 4.1.1 also and its doing the same t
