I was new to postgresql and have had to use it with both C and PHP.
Having purchased both books, I have found #2 in your list a lot more
useful than #1 (don't let the "beginning" title fool you into
thinking it's just a 'hello world' book). #2 is better organized for
what I'm doing, especia

It covers up to 8.0.
It's a little verbose

This is a good book. As far as I know it's the most up-to-date
general-purpose PostgreSQL book.
If you are interested in previewing
Ganbold,
There are man PDF files out there that outline all of the workings of
postgresql. They are easy to read, but also have 'deep dive'
information in them as well. The PDF's are really valuable, both for
the novice and for those who are experienced.
I'd start there.

1. PostgreSQL (2nd Edition) by Korry Douglas (Paperback - Jul 26, 2005)

I began learning PostgreSQL a couple of years ago, having worked previously
with Paradox. I would agree with a previous responder that the Douglas
& Douglas book "PostgreSQL: the comprehensive guide to building,
programming, and administering PostgreSQL databases" 2nd ed. is a good
book.

Although being an old book, Bruce Momjian's "PostgreSQL: Introduction
and Concepts" can be a good start, especially for people, who haven't
used SQL before.

The Douglas and Douglas book -- second edition -- is excellent as an
introduction to PostgreSQL. If you want to learn SQL, any book by Joe Celko
will be the best you can do. It's

TIP 2: Don't 'kill -9' the postmaster
Thought I would add some comments to this thread. I recently bought
the K. Douglas & S. Douglas (2006) "PostgreSQL: The comprehensive guide to
building, programming, and administering PostgreSQL databases", 2nd ed (1006
pages). At $50, it is a bit pricey, but that is the case with all

Hello All,
I hope that you are well. Based on the consensus on the list and the good
recommendations from y'all. I will be ordering Douglas' book. I think that I
would benefit greatly from it. Thanks to all that responded to this thread.
Cheers,
Aly.

Korry's book is slated for July (hey Korry, send me a review copy eh?) and
should expand on his previous book (including info on slony iirc) which was
quite good.
The newest book currently on the market is Begining Database w/ PostgreSQL,
which I did some work on. I thought it was pretty good
