Hi,
I just installed postgresql 8.3 on my windows xp desktop. For
some reason, I am not able to start it as a service from the control
panel (I have set it to start manually). But if I bring up pgAdmin III
UI, I can connect to the db from there.
any ideas on how to get the windows service work

Is that the *exact* error text?
You also don't mention what platform you're on, or what versions of
pgAdmin, PostgreSQL, and if you build it yourself, the debugg
It is:
'error: columnt.returntype does not exist'
Do you know what this means? And how to resolve it?

the point i was trying to make is that pgAdmin seems to have the possibility
to restore the connection, since opening a new sql window does the trick.
"All you'd need to do" would be to invoke this behavior when it is
necessary, without opening a new window.
cheers,
