It is so ridiculously slow (and heavy) that I find it hard to understand how
this ever made it into customers hands. Honestly, after you push the button you
can watch the lens slowly approaching focus ... still focussing ... yes,

someone guessed so thats why its "rounded". It was not possible to get
the whole lake into the shot at that time because of the sun position,
if I remember correct.

I remembered I have a K 135mm 3.5 :) I had a look, the link
between the focus ring and the part that does the focus can
not be at the front of the lens, it's also not under the rubber
focus ring cover so it must be to the back of the focusing scale.

The shot was made @ 4.0 The K 55/1.8 that I have isn't a very contrasty
lens either. The lower contrast and subtle tonality this lens delivers is
very appealing. Methinks it would be a great portrait lens on the
istD-series. Reminiscent of the very early Nikkor 85/2.0, which is one for

hiding detail but by good framing, good lighting and good color balance.

Sheesh ... kids and BB guns, and a**hole parents. Awful. Some people have
no respect for the lives and well-being of the smaller critters. It's nice

While sharpness and contrast and high resolution numbers are good,
sometimes lenses of "lower specs" are passed over because they don't
"measure up" to some arbitrary contemporary standards. Perhaps you recall
from a past thread that I've been looking for lenses that provide an older
look and feel

My 1953 'Cron delivers subtle tonality and relatively low contrast. I like that
kind of rendering. I find the results of the K55/1.8, at least as interpreted

You've got to think that thousands of man hours go into a design, the
design is stringently tested on a
computer, everything looks good. Prototypes are built to the highest
standards, and tested. Good results,
then mass manufacturing begins... The product is within specifications
