Of the two, I prefer the MX. But beware of meters that don't work or
won't turn off. It's an excellent camera, certainly among the best
Pentax film cameras ever made. You can also get a motor winder (or
motor drive) for it, which is a nice plus. Even with the winder, it's
still a compact camer
Hi Joe
Welcome
I have both and although I've never compared their performance side-by-side, I
prefer the KX.
I know Pentax made a big fuss about the small size of the ME/MX when they were
released but I find the larger KX more comfortable to hold and use - it feels
more substantial (probably
Hi- I've just arrived here!
I have no previous Pentax experience other than borrowing my sister's
Spotmatic in the 70s and briefly handling an MX that I bought to give to
someone (and probably should have kept for myself ).
I like this vintage of film SLR and have several older bodies and len
Relax, nobody said that it was "needed", only that it worked.

Why should you need a "trick" to lock the mirror up on a KX? It has a control
specifically designed to do that.

Nope. But you can do the mirror lock-up trick* and then use the self-timer to
take the shot. This is how I usually do it becaus I often don't have a cable
release handy.

Gary,
I have never had an MX apart far enough to get into the shutter speed display
dial so I can't say for certain how easy a fix it might be. There could,
in fact, be several different failures which would give this symptom. Download
the service manual for the MX from my web site at http://www.
I picked up an MX last night on eBay for $100. The lister states that the shutter
speed in the viewfinder does
not change but that the shutter speeds and the rest of the camera function fine. Would
this be an "easy" fix or
does anyone have an idea as to what may or maynot be wrong with it?

t was probably an equally good deal. I happen to have a
spare eveready case & 50mm lens, though so I feel happy I did not win the
higher bid.

Externally, from a user-interface perspective, the MX is *much* smaller
than the K1000 and has a self-timer and depth-of-field preview (push the
self-timer lever in towards the lens mount).
Through the viewfinder, the MX displays the selected shutter speed and aperture
and has a series of 5 LEDs
New to the pentax world so forgive me if this is an obvious answer but What
are the main differences between the MX and my K-1000. From a
user-interface perspective, they look almost identical -except for what I
assume to be a self timer on the front...
