Depending on the type of work you want to do, I 'd go with either a
100mm or 50mm f2.8 macro. Personally I use a D-FA 100 f2.8 and find the
results to be excellent. I have a Sigman 50mm f 2.8 that is also
excellent. I also use an M 50 f4 macro from time to time.

Hi Christine -
Just a comment - at the maximum X-Synch speed and slower, changing the shutter
speed only affects the ambient lighting. It has no affect on the flash - only
aperture affects flash. I think there is some affect with high speed synch.

Hi Everyone -
It finally happened - my trusty old SMC A* 200mm macro developed a problem this
past weekend, and there is clearly an issue in the linkage between the arm that
controls the aperture and the aperture mechanism itself. I sent it off to
Pentax
in hopes that they can get it fixed up
Mark. It was a good time, although plenty of rain. You're probably
fortunate that you chose to do something else. Next year!

Hey Paul -
Great set of photos! I *almost* made it to the dream cruise this year - my
brother in law called friday night before and said he had a chance to go
courtesy of some auto parts company, but I was already committed for Saturday
and couldn't get out.
Checked in to see what I missed

Wow! Daniel - pass my tanks on to your wife, I hope she is able to find a
vendor for the book.
Thanks too to Paul Stenquist for telling me about the discussion of the book
here. I started a new day-job 6 months ago and after almost 10 years of
freelancing and part-timing I'm still a bit freak

I've examined a number of my exposures and have been unable to find any faults.
I've shot several hundred frames at a time, so I probably have generated some
heat.

Thanks, Pa
, got an RMA, they will
exchange the camera. It took all of 2 minutes on the phone to explain the
problem and get things set up.
They are a quality outfit.

Marc,
Not that I want to alarm you, but you are not the only one with this
problem. In fact, we might want to call it an epidemic:

Here's a similar crop from the frame before the one I posted yesterday -
straight from the raw file with no adjustments. It's still pretty visible, at
least on the screen:

I'll try to do some research on the update - hadn't heard about it but I've

Sorry to hear that Mark.
The firmware update coming very very soon may help. I hope so.

Thanks, Joseph - I didn't think of the pixel mapping thingy. I'll give that a

Thanks, Jack - if it is a known isue at least I won't have to spend as much
time convincing Pentax or B&H that it is a real issue. I'm seeing it at ISO
200, 400, and 800. (I haven't shot much at higher speeds...)
