for various formats. In fact, most sound editors default to those settings
cuz most people using them are into to making cd's.

Are you sher you're telling it right? The bit rate has nothing to do with
the speed, the sampling rate does. The bit rate deals with resolution of
dynamics and such. Instead, is this what you do: you record the nls tape at
twice the normal speed and use a sampling rate of 32000, 16-bit

There are of course, a host of graphic thingies available for editing

The answer to both quiestions is yes. The line-in on the sound card is meant
for preamp and equivalent outputs.
There are several disk clean-up programs out there. The one I'm using which
costs a$45 is called Wave Corrector. Works very fast and takes minimal
adjustments which are all transparent. I
