I would say mu-torrent would work very well. I use mu-torrent and it's very
accessible.

Yes, I do this all the time. You have to go to effects, left arrow until you
get to volume, and then enter on change volume. You can then do minus 2 or
minus 3 to turn the volume down.

I ripped a CD using Easy CD DA Extracter, and for some very! unknown reason,

ok, are you using the latest version of easy cd da extracter? which is
version 12?
f 8 always is the key to start the ripping process.
