I no longer have the installation file, but you can download it from
http://mpc-hc.org/downloads/ .
If you're playing a disc with it, it may be that those functions are
prevented by the disc itself; some distributors do this so you have to
go through the disc menu rather than the player settings.
This is certainly good news. Shows ya just how infrequently I use my
Airplay devices with Windows!

FLAC rules. As fast as I am able, I am rebuilding my music
collection--some 150,000 tracks-- with FLAC and APE (Monkey's
Audio--yes, that's its real name, also lossless) formatted audio
files. Now if only iStuff could play these, then I wouldn't have to
convert them to AAC or ALAC.

At ten kroner per dollar, that's even more expensive than the Koss
model I just wrote about. Maybe more because of being imported?

See my comments re .AAC and .ALAC. Lots of non-iThings play these
formats, too, so this may be the solution for which you are looking.

Anyone try the Koss ones? I have a pair on order and will let you know
how they are. A bit pricey, but I generally am very well satisfied
with Koss' approach to headphones, way back to those ultra-heavy
headache-generators, the Pro 4AA's. The replacements, the Pro 4AAA's,

Actually no. Minimum compression yields maximum bit rate. Minimum
compression means you compress it minimally.

I had OPlayer on an Android tablet once and it was pretty darn neat.
Didn't know it was available for iOS.
Re VLC, it's a fine product, but its accessibility leaves more than a
little to be desired, in my unhumble opinion.

OK--stupid question--what program can be loaded on an iOS device that
will play these other formats and get me out of the iTunes world?

I have read and read until my fingers fall off about setting up and
using a DLNA server, but I must be missing or overlooking something,
because I have not gotten to get it working anywhere any way.
Suggestions welcome.
Of the two players you mention, can you highlight their strengths and
weakness

Oh dear God, the Pro4AA. I actually got the Pro4AAT headphones a while
back, the titanium model. To say I was unhappy with them would be a
serious understatement.
They were heavy, uncomfortable, and the cord end died in a year. I ended
up replacing them with Sennheiser HD280PROs, which too had t
I didn't even think the double-A's were made any more. Heavy? Sure
were! But oh, the sound! Best the 70's had to offer, in my unhumble
opinion, as they say.
What are the AKG's like? Tell me about their fit, their performance,
durability, anything at all.

Firewire mixers also exist. I own two, one of which was recently
destroyed by some well-meaning carpet-cleaning people who didn't know
that you shouldn't put something with knobs upside down on a carpet
and move it by sheer force. I currently use the Mackie 1640I
16-channel board.

Hi all,
I am considering purchase of one of these Bose units. Each of them has
a console to which you connect your various devices, such as cable box
or apple tv. Then they want you to use their universal remote to
control the stuff you've got connected there. That would seem to me to
