You can definitely install this new version of Winamp over the top of
your existing version. I don't know if your copy of Winamp will auto
update to this version or not as I always install new versions of Winamp
manually and don't wait for automatic updates.

The automatic level control is under the options menu. Make sure you're
recording in software, not soundboard mode in recording source and
parameters, also in the options menu. And, if you're using Windows 7, there
are settings that can make recordings sound very bad, but I can't remember
them

If you mean the WINTRANS braille translator, I might be able to help but we
should probably take it off list since the only thing that is audio are error
tones.
WINTRANS as I know it is a Windows program that runs NFBTRANS.
