Thanks for the info.
You could, I believe, have saved yourself all the problems, by before
installing the new version, saving your settings, then when the new version
had been installed, importing the old settings file. This usually works for
me.

Thanks for that excellent suggestion on saving GW settings before updating
the program. I would note in passing that I have never lost the GW
configuration file in the four or five updates I have installed. However, I
will start saving the GW configuration before updating in the future

Freemake Video Converter is a good program to use and it is free. find it
at:
www.freemake.com
You just go to the file menu and enter on select video.
then go to the convert menu and select avi.
Next I assume a dialog will appear where you can edit the settings. I have
only converted to audio
